The Indian Railways is gearing up to launch its first Vande Bharat sleeper trains, marking a significant upgrade to long-distance travel. The prototype of the train has undergone extensive testing, including trials at speeds of up to 180 kmph, and is expected to be operational by mid-2026.
Key Features of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains:
– Modern Amenities: Integrated reading lights, USB charging ports, automated announcement systems, and security cameras
– Comfortable Berths: Ergonomically designed berths, redesigned ladders for senior citizens, and improved lighting and ventilation systems
– Safety: HL3 (Hazard Level 3) compliant for fire safety and Braille navigation
– Speed: Designed to operate at 160 kmph, with a top speed of 180 kmph
Production and Deployment:
The trains are being manufactured at the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Perambur, Chennai, with eight more rakes expected to be produced by March 2026. The first train is likely to be launched on the New Delhi-Patna route, followed by other high-demand routes.
