Low-cost carrier SpiceJet has added five new Boeing 737 aircraft, including one 737 MAX, to its fleet, taking its total operational strength to 35 planes. This move is part of the airline’s aggressive winter expansion plan, aiming to cater to the surge in passenger traffic during the festive and holiday season.
The new additions include 14 planes brought in on damp lease and the reactivation of a previously grounded Boeing 737 MAX from SpiceJet’s inventory. All five aircraft have already commenced commercial operations, enhancing connectivity on high-demand domestic and international routes.
With this expansion, SpiceJet’s daily flights have increased from 100 to 176, marking a significant jump in capacity. “SpiceJet’s winter expansion is a reflection of the strong demand in the market and our readiness to meet it,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet.
The airline’s shares surged 3% in Thursday’s trading session, reflecting investor optimism about SpiceJet’s growth trajectory and improved operational outlook.
