Shipgyer, North Sikkim | A 53-year-old woman sustained injuries after a boulder fell onto a savari (shared taxi) traveling from Chungthang to Gangtok on Friday evening. The incident occurred between 5:30 and 6:00 PM near Shipgyer in North Sikkim.
According to initial reports, heavy rainfall in the region triggered a landslide, causing a large boulder to tumble onto the road and strike the moving vehicle. The impact left the woman injured, while other passengers reportedly escaped unhurt.
Local authorities and emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The injured woman was provided with immediate medical assistance and later transferred to a nearby health facility for further treatment.
Frequent rainfall in the region has increased the risk of landslides and falling debris, especially along the mountainous roads of North Sikkim. Officials have urged travelers to exercise caution and stay updated with weather advisories.
